Digestion Help From Coconut Oil Interview with Dr. Bruce Fife Interviewed by Raena Morgan January 20, 2009
Raena Morgan: A lot of people suffer from digestive disorders. Can coconut oil affect that?
Dr. Bruce Fife: Coconut oil is good for people who have digestive concerns because it is digested differently from other fats. It is easier to digest. In fact, you don’t even need pancreatic digestive enzymes or bile in order to digest the fats in coconut oil; they’re digested very quickly. And, in that process there’s less strain put on the body so people who are suffering from malnutrition, for example, are given coconut oil because it provides a quick and easy source of nutrition without taxing the enzyme systems of the body. People who have digestive concerns can digest coconut oil easily so they get the nutrition they’re supposed to from the oil without overtaxing the body.
FM: How about something like Irritable Bowel Syndrome? Does it have a positive effect on that?
BF: Coconut oil as well as coconut meat and coconut flour has an excellent reputation with any type of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn’s Disease, and colitis type problems. People taking the oil, or the flour, report very positive responses. In fact, people with Crohn’s Disease mention that eating 2 macaroon cookies, you know, cookies made with coconut, is all they need to stop all of their symptoms associated with it. So, 2 cookies a day…
RM: Two coconut cookies…
BF: Yes, 2 coconut cookies, but coconut oil also has a very similar affect, so eating coconut oil in the diet can help prevent all the bad symptoms associated with these conditions.
RM: Because there’s the cramping…
BF: The cramping, the diarrhea, yes.
RM: The constipation.
BF: Constipation as well.
RM: And, so many people suffer from IBS.
BF: Yes, and this is an easy solution, just taking it regularly in your diet to eliminate the symptoms.
RM: A lot of people will be glad to hear that.
BF: Definitely!
RM: Thank you.
