What you eat has a direct link to one of the more common cancers according to a recent report…
The study backs up what’s been suggested before… that regularly eating processed meats… like bacon and hot dogs increases the risk of colorectal cancer… while eating whole grains like brown rice and whole-wheat bread daily reduces the risk. Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers… but the study confirms that diet and lifestyle can play a major role.
The study also found other factors that increase the risk of the cancer, like eating more than 500 grams of red meat a week… being overweight and consuming two or more alcoholic beverages a day.
We’ve long known that too much sodium in your diet can result in a variety of health issues… now you can add type 2 diabetes to the list.
The study out of Sweden found that sodium intake was linked to an average 43 percent increase the risk of developing type two diabetes for each extra gram of sodium consumed per day. The study also revealed the risk of developing Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults, a form of type 1 diabetes was even greater… a 73 percent rise for each gram of sodium consumed per day.
Finally… a study out of Maryland is giving more reasons to keep inflammation at bay in your body…
The study found how inflammation contributes to insulin resistance… a key feature of diabetes. Insulin resistance is when insulin fails to break down glucose in the body efficiently. Researchers found that a gene, activated by inflammation blocks a certain molecule that signals insulin to do it’s job… potentially leading to insulin resistance and other problems down the line.
Chronic inflammation is cause by a number of factors including high sugar intake, obesity and age.
