HELLO AND WELCOME TO THIS WEEK’S NATURAL HEALTH NEWS…

THEY SEEM TO BE A STAPLE AROUND THE HOLIDAYS AND NOW THEY MAY BE MORE HEALTHY THAN YOU THOUGHT…ANALYSIS OF CURRENT STUDIES REVEAL THAT CONSUMING 20 GRAMS… OR ABOUT A HANDFUL OF NUTS A DAY… SHOWED A LOWER RISK OF HEART DISEASE, CANCER AND OTHER DISEASES.  THE STUDY INCLUDED ALL KINDS OF TREE NUTS LIKE HAZEN NUTS AND WALNUTS AS WELL AS PEANUTS, WHICH ARE ACTUALLY LEGUMES.   CONSUMING AT LEAST 20 GRAMS OF NUTS WAS ASSOCIATED WITH A REDUCED RISK OF HEARD DISEASE BY NEARLY 30 PERCENT AND THE RISK OF CANCER BY 15 PERCENT

ANOTHER STAPLE THIS TIME OF YEAR IS SWEET POTATOES… BELIEVE IT OR NOT… THEY MIGHT BE GOOD FOR YOUR WAISTLINE!  WELL… NOT THE SWEET POTATO PIE… BUT GET THIS… THE WATER LEFT OVER FROM COOKING!  A NEW STUDY OUT OF JAPAN FOUND MICE ON A HIGH FAT DIET… HAD SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER BODY WEIGHT LIVER MASS AFTER ONE MONTH, IF THEY ALSO WERE FED SWEET POTATO PEPTIDE, WHICH IS PRODUCED BY ENZYME DIGESTION OF PROTEINS IN THE WATER WASTED DURING PROCESSING.

A STUDY IN NORWAY IS RAISING QUESTIONS ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT SATURATED FAT IS BAD FOR YOU…  IN THE TRIAL… NEARLY 40 MEN WITH ABDOMINAL OBESITY FOLLOWED A DIET HIGH IN EITHER CARBOHYDRATES OR FAT… HALF OF WHICH WAS SATURATED.  THOSE WHO WERE ON THE HIGH -FAT DIET, HAD SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENTS IN MANY RISK FACTORS LIKE FAT STORAGE, BLOOD PRESSURE AND BLOOD SUGAR.  THE FAT SOURCES USED WERE LOWLY PROCESSED… BUTTER, CREAM AND COLD-PRESSED OILS.
