Interviewer: Can you explain what PQQ stands for? I'm sure people are going to want to search and find out more about this product.

Dr. Derrick DeSilva: Well, it's Pyrroloquinoline quinone. This particular substance, again, working on a cellular level in the mitochondria, and the next question is who's mitochondria. Mitochondria are the little cellular energy packets within the cells.

Interviewer: Okay.

Dr. Derrick DeSilva: It is the engine that drives the car. You've got a car, which is the cell. You've got the engine and then you've got fuel that you've got to put into the engine. The PQQ like CoQ10 is the fuel. It's the spark that runs the engine that runs the car. All of this works together. We don't look at ingredients as just a singular ingredient. Every one of these things work as a unit and that's the beauty of dietary supplements. The beauty of dietary supplements is, again, my opinion on this and in working with them for so long is that dietary supplements have various roles. CoQ10 has various roles. Vitamin E has various roles. Vitamin C has various roles. Using the nutrients in the right form in the right way really enhances our body and really does what it's supposed to do.

Interviewer: Is PQQ relatively new in terms of discovering what it is and what it does and its potential?

Dr. Derrick DeSilva: I think it's relatively new in the dietary supplement market because a lot of people have not heard of it. I was introduced to this probably 8 or 10 years ago, I'll never forget this, at one of the major meetings at Expo West in fact. I was outside and one of my good friends came out to me and said, "Hey, Derek, have you heard about this new thing that's called PQQ?" I said, "Who?" and he gave me a whole bunch of information  then I started reading about it. I thought, "God, this is fascinating." I've just been interested in it ever since.
