Interviewer: Doctor, you have a book titled, "Powerful Medicine, Vitamin D." What lead to write that book?

Dr. Lucinda Messer: I was very drawn to write the book because I was a living in Arizona as a natural pathic resident. As I was seeing patients down there, fifteen years ago, I noticed people were less sick there. Down in Arizona . . .

Interviewer: Mm-hmm.

Dr. Lucinda Messer: . . . than they were up in the northwest. Another triggering factor was that I moved back up to the northwest, I became early depressed, with seasonal affective disorder; lack of light. I was quite sure the sunshine factor.

Interviewer: Mm-hmm.

Dr. Lucinda Messer: So both those things kind of drove me to research sunshine and vitamin D.

Interviewer: Mm-hmm. What did you find in that research?

Dr. Lucinda Messer: I was very surprised, I was quite certain the light factor, as far as the light factor, the serotonin coming in through our retina and increasing our health that way. What I stumbled upon was the fact that there was already a bunch of research done back in the 1940s and 50s. Done by Mike Holick (sp), which already showed proof that vitamin D was indeed sunshine vitamin that helps so many people with so many maladies.
Dr. Lucinda Messer recently released a book on vitamin D. Here she discusses how the book came about and how her own personal experiences and changes in health led her to research the topic.
