Hi and welcome to this week’s edition of natural health headlines on iHealthTube dot com.

There are more indications of potential health risks from the low-fat craze.

According to recent reviews of data… consuming low-fat diary products is associated with a greater risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.  The study reviewed 25 years of data from on over 120 thousand men and women enrolled in the Nurses’ Health Study.  Data revealed those who consumed at least three servings of low-fat dairy a day, had a 34 percent greater chance of developing Parkinson’s than people who consumed less than one serving per day.

Researchers also looked at full-fat dairy, like whole milk had any connection, but there was no association with Parkinson’s.  The results do not show that dairy products cause Parkinson’s, only that there is an association.

New research is showing promise for potentially helping prevent the most common cancer in U.S. men… and it’s something you can find right in your grocery store…

Research out of the University of Texas is indicating several natural compounds found in food… including turmeric… apple peels and red grapes are key ingredients that could help slow the growth of prostate cancer in this country.  The compounds in these foods minimize inflammation in the body… one of the risk factors for cancer.  Ursolic acid seemed to be the most promising ingredient tested… it’s found in apple peels, rosemary, cur cumin and resveratrol… the compound common in red grapes and berries.

One of the authors of the study said the combinations of nutrients have a better effect on prostate cancer than some existing drugs.

Finally… it may not be a big surprise… but there’s more evidence that one of the best ways to lose weight is to eat more vegetables.

New research out of Washington DC looked at over 70 subjects with type-2 diabetes.  Randomly… they were selected to follow either a vegetarian diet or a conventional anti-diabetic diet. The results showed the vegetarian diet was almost twice as effective in reducing body weight.  And MRI’s revealed that muscle fat was greatly reduced by the vegetarian diet… which according to the author would improve metabolism.
